The Facts > Abortion (back)
The Mother

An attack on pro-lifers is that we only care about the unborn life and disregard life after birth since the women will suffer, in one way or another, if they had to go through a full term pregnancy; however, these people apparently don't know about the risks of abortion as if they did, they would realize that it is more loving to stop her.
Many pro-abortion advocates claim that abortion is an easy and painless procedure and argue that it is safe, safer than a full term pregnancy and child birth. However, they are sadly mistaken; in fact, statistics show that women who have had a past abortion have:

  • Twice the risk of ectopic pregnancy
  • Double the risk of cervical cancer
  • Higher risks of ovarian and liver cancer
  • Up to 3 times the risk of breast cancer
  • Up to 4 times the risk of early deaths with future pregnancy
Also, pelvic infection is a common and serious complication of induced abortion, and it is reported in 30% of all cases.

Of course physical health is not the only factor as shown in Doe v Bolton. The psychological and social welfare of the women is at risk if she doesn't have an abortion, another pro-abortion argument. But yet again of the women who had a past abortion:
  • 44% complain of nervous disorders
  • 36% experience sleep disturbances
  • 31% had regrets about their decision
  • 11% were prescribed psycho tropic medicine
Women who have had a past abortion have been shown to be 1½ times more likely to committed suicide, and multiple studies tie abortion to a rise in sexual dysfunction, aversion to sex, loss of intimacy, unexpected guilt, extramarital affairs, traumatic stress syndrome, personality fragmentation, grief response, child abuse and neglect, and increase in alcohol and drug abuse. Any of the above effects of abortion would seem to be much more socially damaging, to say the least, than an inheritance from God, a child.(Psalms 127:3) And psychological complications, the many postabortion therapy and support groups testify to the reality of abortion's potentially harmful psychological effects. Joan Appleton, a former abortion advocate with NOW and head nurse at a Virginia abortion facility, is quoted, "I counseled these women so well; they were so sure of their decision. Why are they coming back now—months and years later—psychological wrecks?"
Countless women who have been damaged by abortion have said that they had no idea this could happen; no one told them about the risks. There are multiple physical and psychological risks for the mother, and 90% of women admit that they are/were not given enough information to make an informed choice. Women deserve better than that, women deserve to know. 2 Timothy 2:15, "Study to shew thyself approved unto God..."
